SYNOPSIS

"Why do you get everything I don't when we're the same?"

Generally a calm and level-headed presence, Valery cared, and still cares, a lot for his small friend group even despite the amount of times he's ripped into them for whatever stupid stunt they pulled most recently. Even if he often came off as angry and intimidating, he always made sure all of them were well fed and uninjured.

Being extremely prone to envy and having low slef-worth due to personal trauma that he hadn't ever unpacked, Valery had a tendency to harshly compare himself to those around him. After the death of his parents, he spiralled and ended up in a cult- not that he noticed that's what the group was at the time.

Everything came to a head when he met Raul Zullo, someone who in Valery's eyes was just like him, but more successful. What had originally started as curiosity became a dangerous obsession, quickly becoming involved in the battle between the Stand Force and The Flock in an ever-shifting position of both ally and enemy.

DESIGN

  • Has healed burn scars over approximately half his body, with cut scars covering a large portion of his skin as well.
  • One eye is permanently partially closed due to nerve damage.
  • Coat is NOT torn- it has rectangular cut-outs.
  • Rarely wears any footwear without wheels (rollerskates, rollerblades, heelys, etc.)

BACKGROUND

PRE-CAMPAIGN

Valery has lived in the town of St.Ives for practically all his life, his family having moved there soon after the birth of their baby girl. Both parents are devotely catholic, and raised their daughter with all that came with that. Valery met his best friends Jaxson Murphy and Skylar Jaxon in school, and then Alexia Stevens and Jackson Cass, the latter declaring himself the leader of the group. No one objected, and so they were named the Jackson Five, with Valery's weirdly intelligent cat Super Chief being an honorary sixth member. Valery also had extended family in the form of two grandads in the USA, who's farm he sometimes got to spend holidays at.

The group hung out just like any other, until soon after Valery's eighteenth birthday, where he started to refuse even leaving his room. It took some time for the group to even be told what happened- that being the death of Valery's parents. During this period of mourning, Valery got himself tangled with a cult within the town calling themselves The Flock, masquerading themselves as a religion based upon community, when they were actually dedicated to an entity known to the local law enforcement as The Stitcher, a serial killer who connected together the nerves of living creatures, making horrendous fusions with seemingly no motive.

As part of his involvement, he was told of the Wall Eyes, strange structures within the nearby woods that grant great abilities to those that are worthy, and killing those that aren't. Convincing his friends to come with him, the Jackson Five all visited the Wall Eyes, and awoke after passing out with abilities called Stands, aspects of their souls given form with various abilities. Valery named his Dresden Dolls, a large collection of small dolls he can telepathically communicate with and look through, that explode when threatened. Arguably the strongest ability of the groups, even if the self-destruction of the dolls hurts him, scoring deep cuts across his skin. The new ability caused him to constantly be seeking out visual stimulation, knowing what was going on within St.Ives at all times as Dresden Dolls wandered, showing him everything happening. This is how he noticed the arrival of three new figures to the town, a curiosity as most residents of the town had actually been leaving since The Stitcher became active...

ACT 1, PRE-CHURCH

Valery watched as Raul Zullo, Fey Valentine and Jon Cairo each individually made their way into St.Ives and somehow have very eventful introductions to the town, all fighting some of the local Stand Users. He's also pretty sure he saw one of the convenience store clerks called Billy have some sort of Stand-based altercation, but Valery was more focused on Raul, who was one of the few people that easily noticed Dresden Dolls around the town. He watched as all four of the other Stand Users joined the Stand Force- the new group of law enforcement that had been sent in to deal with the increasing numbers of Stand Users within the town. The easy way they got employment and made connections led to Valery developing a deep envy towards Raul, who he saw much of himself in.

Valery originally sent Super Chief to keep an eye on and guide Raul, as the feline was actually also a Stand User, being able to talk through his ability to control wind currents. Since Raul had already figured out that the cat was involved with Dresden Dolls, having spotted the cat transporting them around town, Valery saw little harm in having his feline companion forcefully move in to Carson's apartment where Raul was staying. However, while Super Chief was trying to warn the taskforce about a serial killer in the park, the group apparently decided that it was of utmost importance to. Arrest the cat. Which I'm honestly still salty about because they treated my little boy so badly! And they also managed to arrest Skylar and Murphy who had been sent to retrieve Super Chief. After the arrest of Cass as well, who just appeared to have beef with Jon, Valery sent a message to Raul imploring for the two of them to meet alone at the church The Flock had been using, knowing that the man's natural curiosity which matched Valery's own would prevent him from telling anyone.

The meeting between Valery and Raul at the church quickly turned sour, Raul completely failing to arrest Valery despite the latter holding his own arms together to be cuffed, Raul leaving the church to set up an explosive trap with his stand before re-entering only to find Valery missing as well, noticing too late the Dresden Doll in his hood as it blew up, leaving him unconscious and causing his own bomb to trigger as well as his stand deactivated, leaving him nearly dead for Valery to taunt the Stand Force about before taking Raul to The Flock, for healing...

With The Stitcher's power, Valery and Raul spent a week together as one being, only being separated as Valery had invited the Stand Force to send only three of their agents to come to the church to attempt to get Raul back. Upon losing the ensuing fight, Valery set off every one of his Dolls, destroying the church with himself still inside as the others managed to escape just in time.

ACT 1, POST-CHURCH

Through some miracle, Valery managed to survive, although with significant scars across his body, and after an encounter with Penny Foster, the leader of the local Stand Force, missing half his Stand and unable to use his left arm, Foster having forced out part of his soul with her own Stand. Alongside all the negative effects, it also had the effect of clearing his mind some, as Foster had taken with her some of his obsessive tendencies alongside his Stand. Knowing that even Penny wasn't expecting him to be able to drag himself out the woods she left him in but fueled by spite, he got to his feet and got to somewhere he could recover.

Passively observing Raul and his coworkers, Valery watched as Foster killed one of her own agents to get her hands on a young Stand User with a powerful ability that made her see through reality, framing Raul for it as curiosity had driven him to eavesdrop on the meeting. As Jon, Fey and Billy had grown close with each other and Raul during their time working as a team, they believed his innocence and decided their first move was to rescue the young Stand User, Primrose, from the hospital Penny had sent her to. However, when Raul managed to get to the room Primrose was supposedly kept in, he found it empty.

This is when Valery revealed his still breathing state, coming out of hiding from behind the door to inform Raul that the girl he was looking for had actually been sent out to a holding facility of the Aja Foundation, the ones in charge of the Stand Force. Seeing that Valery was their only reliable source of information and currently not hostile, Raul reluctantly brought his own stalker back to Jon's apartment where the group was hiding out for the time being, which no one was particularly pleased about but after Jon got out some aggression by breaking Valery's nose and knocking out a tooth, decided to let him stay, even taking his request to pick up Skylar before the corrupt Force could take her in since she was very much innocent in the whole debacle, on the condition that he be stuck to the couch with Raul's ability to make sure he doesn't run off or something. They let him send along some Dolls with them though, for communication and extra protection.

Since it's practically impossible for the group to not act incredibly shady, it took long enough for them to get Skylar that they got into an altercation with Cindy Moon of the Stand Force, the agent coming after them full force under the impression that it had been Raul responsible for the murder of her best friend, chasing them through the sewers until Valery got sick of waiting and had a Dresden Doll stick itself to her face, forcing her to stop and listen to Raul explain himself under the threat of essentially having a bomb strapped to her. She let them go, and so everyone managed to get back to see Valery slowly having his Stand drag an ice pack to his position where they left him in front of the TV playing a scratched copy of Shrek 3, which he's not sure whether to hold a grudge over or not.

Once his nose got set back in place, Valery's next suggestion was that the group needs more support to defeat Penny, so they should all go to the Aja Foundation's holding facility to break out the rest of the Jackson Five to help them fight, as well as getting Primrose back. It's a two in one deal! Since no one else had a better idea, Fey express ordered them a bus to use as transport- although she didn't actually ask if anyone knew how to drive one first, so it's lucky for them Valery actually did, not that anyone was particularly pleased to give him more power within the group- and they set off on one of the most awkard road trips of all time to break into special Stand User jail.

During the road trip, the group managed to get caught in a time loop stand while visiting a convenience store, which Jon solved by just guessing that the store clerk was the Stand User and punching him into unconsciousness, with them being SHOCKED that Valery thought nothing of them having spent an entire half hour in the store before they shouted out the window to check with him. As if it was his problem that they apparently just took forever shopping. Turned out that the Aja Foundation was on their tail, as only a short time later the road suddenly lost friction and the air filled with unnatural smoke as a combat vehicle equipped with anti-Stand technology chased after the group, Valery somehow managing to keep the bus on the road despite driving with one arm and impaired vision on a heavily obscured and slippery road while working with Jon to sabotage the vehicle once the rest of the group managed to win the fight. Fey's head nearly got exploded but she survived, so the trip continued with everyone alive.

Arriving in the city the jail is in, it was agreed that Valery would stay in the bus as a get away driver, sending in Dresden Dolls with everyone else infiltrating the building. The group fails to be stealthy for particularly long, only thinking to get disguises way after their cover gets blown and the facility goes into lockdown, a Stand User named Aretha shrinking the whole building down to a tiny size and fighting against the group, nearly killing Raul, which Valery was not happy about once he arrived and shoved a Dresden Doll in her mouth to shut her up as he joined the rest of the group in battling against Penny's godfather who ran that particular branch of the Aja Foundation. Raul even confided in Valery that he had accidentally killed a guard, and while he couldn't give much advice as he doesn't have any blood on his hands himself, Valery really felt that the two of them had strengthened their bond that day. The group got out with the new addition of Primrose and the other members of the Jackson Five, including Super Chief.

The trip back to St.Ives was surprisingly uneventful, besides the Aja Foundation reaching out to put the disgraced agents of the Stand Force the offer of continued employment and support in the upcoming fight as long as they took care of the issue that was Penny Foster, since they'd already gotten rid of the corrupt officer that was her godfather. Valery was still a criminal, but everyone else wasn't wanted for arrest, and Valery would get immunity until the fight is done since his support would, to the chagrin of everyone else involved, be very useful. Arriving back at St.Ives, the town was partially destroyed with giant tree trunks and wooden spears going through the buildings, courtesy of Cindy Moon's altercation with Penny Foster once she had learned the truth of who was responsible for her best friend's death. With no time like the present, they went to confront Penny, who during the initial hostility turned on her own ally, stealing the Stand of Tyler Rhodes and completing her Stand's transformation, going from a small gooey creature named S.O.S to the intimidating figure of Queen of the Masquerade, a tall being with multiple limbs combining the powers of all the Stands she had absorbed.

The ensuing fight took the lives of Jaxson Murphy and Skylar Jaxon, but Valery didn't have time to mourn as he was busy holding off a rogue agent of the Aja Foundation to let everyone else take care of Penny Foster. Not that he had time after as well, as he only spared enough time to taunt Raul's group before quickly leaving to avoid being apprehended, the newly hired agents of the Aja Foundation being given a paid vacation after dealing with the mess.

ACT 1.5, LAS VEGAS

Of course Valery is incapable of leaving Raul alone, especially since Penny's death returned all the soul pieces she'd stolen, so Valery got a nice dose of obsessive tendencies back. Although his own presence in Las Vegas was not because of Raul, having actually made the trip out as he knew some members of the cult were there, and he wanted to check on them. So he was pleasantly surprised when his phone rang while he was sitting in on one of Diego's meetings and it was Raul contacting him to ask about that very meeting! He was pleased to get a glimpse of his precious Raul, though he still asked for something in return for the information they wanted.

With Raul having frozen up, Valery asked for the phone to be handed over to Jon, which the red-haired mafioso was curious about, Valery explaining that he was simply the best choice out of the group as Raul is scared of him, Billy doesn't take him seriously and Fey is just an airhead. After some negotiation Valery shared what the effect of Diego's stand is, directing Jon to look down at his own shadow to show that they had all been caught under the effect already, so Diego could make them perform any action he had taken himself recently, which was extrememly dangerous as he was a talented contortionist and sword swallower. With the call over, Valery decided to ignore that the group had been very against letting Valery keep a Dresden Doll in Raul's pocket and had one slip in anyway to watch over the group as they continued their working vacation.

ACT 2, BROKEN TIES

Valery casually kept an eye on the group as they made their way onto an island the cult majorly operated on. He managed to keep his presence fully unknown until he decided to have his Dresden Doll show itself to Billy, the other having decided he owes Valery a favor in return for technically helping him beat a stand that had been trying to slowly drive him insane. To Valery's surprise, Billy had actually avoided telling anyone about it, leading to him getting something of a soft spot for the man- on the run from the law, Valery was rather lonely with only Super Chief for company, so anyone doing something kind for him was unexpected.

Fey had been replaced with an agent sent to help from the Speedwagon Foundation, a fellow organisation specialising in researching and occasionally containing Stands. Ƭ̵̬̊, referred to as Love Symbol since most people typically can't pronounce pictures, was about as odd as any other stand user. Valery didn't really have much of an opinion of him, though he considers his Stand ability to be cool- even if it did make him extremely weak to high temperatures, so it wouldn't be much of a contest if the the two ever ended up in an altercation.

Unfortunately, during the Las Vegas holiday, Raul had managed to get a girlfriend, which sent Valery into a rage when he heard about it, even more so when the Force found his Doll and purposefully detonated it. This broke the terms of the promise Valery had made to Raul, that he would protect him until he could kill him, so long as he stayed faithful. He had been abandoned, and so the protection no longer applied. This will have consequences once the campaign is un-paused :)

RELATIONSHIPS

Valery's object of obsession. Even Valery himself isn't exactly sure whether he wants to be him, or be with him. Raul himself is mostly just freaked out, less so by the stalking, since he does that himself, and more by the traumatic experience of having literally been stitched to Valery.

Valery's best friend alongside Jaxson Murphy. They both balanced out the more volatile parts of Valery's personality, and now with them gone, Valery is just desperately trying to convince himself that he's fine, and doesn't need time to grieve.

One of Valery's previous bodyguards, courtesy of the cult. Mostly just found him annoying more than anything.

The leader of The Flock. Valery doesn't actually know them that well, mostly just getting occasional orders from them before the church incident disconnected him from the cult.
